bridging boricua culture through spatial computing

what is Infinite Borikua?
Infinite Borikua is an initiative by the Spatialgineers Collective that merges Boricua identity and Taíno heritage with digital art, recreating the symbolism of the guava and petroglyphs in a virtual environment. Through wearables like a reinterpreted wayuko and a cemí pendant, each piece is adapted with variations created by different artists, celebrating the "infinite identities" that coexist within Boricua culture. With this proposal, we bring our tradition into the Decentraland metaverse, opening the doors for the world to discover and appreciate the depth of our roots, proving that the ancestral and the technological can coexist in perfect harmony.
what is the collective?
Spatialgineers Collective is a group of Puerto Rican creators who blend Boricua identity with digital art, exploring Spanish, African, and Taíno heritage through immersive experiences. Each project we undertake aims to preserve and reimagine our cultural roots while innovating in the use of technology and design. In this way, we invite the public to discover how tradition and modernity can come together to expand the way we experience and share our culture in virtual spaces.
inspiration
The inspiration for Infinite Borikua stems from the deep connection Boricuas have with their island, expressed in the phrase "yo mismo soy la isla" ("I myself am the island"). We also reclaim the greeting "Taíno" as a symbol of unity and recognition of good-hearted people, reinforcing bonds that transcend time. The guava serves as a reminder of the cycle of life and our connection to our ancestors. These pillars converge to shape the project's narrative and aesthetics, infusing every detail of the booth and digital wearables. With Infinite Borikua, we invite the public to immerse themselves in an experience where tradition and the metaverse intertwine, paying tribute to our cultural legacy.
narrative

With an earth-toned palette and murals integrating Taíno symbols and words, the environment reinforces identity and artistic collaboration through tags showcasing each contributor.
